Costume Museum of Viana do Castelo – Portugal

The “Museu do Traje” (Costume Museum) of Viana do Castelo (the region) is an ethnographic museum dedicated to studies, and its communication, about the “Vianesa” costume. The construction made was for rehabilitation and remodeling of an existing building of architecture typically from “Estado Novo”, built in 1958 to accommodate the Bank of Portugal. There were applied innovative solutions, always taking in account that they should respect the existing building and be environmentally “green”. In particular, it was adopted an heating system with radiant floor associated with a solar-thermal system, as well as energetic centralized management, etc… With regard to the structural design, it was created a new floor level 3 (designed for offices and archive), and also the second floor was remodeled to be an exhibition open space.
