Energy & Natural Resources Efficiency

Key concepts

01

Materials to be used

Sustainable wood as a construction material is better for the environment than fossil-based materials like concrete and steel, and can also be better for our health and wellbeing. Wood is also increasingly important for the health of the planet. About a million people move to urban environments every ten days, so an area of environmental concern is building materials. Steel and concrete can have major carbon footprints, but organic building materials such as wood could help new buildings act as carbon sinks.

02

Solar Analysis

Sprenplan can provide a detailed Solar analysis that analyses how much of the sun’s energy hits your site or building.
With our tool you can visualize the sun path and shadows that a site or building element generates during a specific time (you can choose the day, and hour of the year and get data – usually the most important data is the peak of the winter and summer – heating VS cooling needs).
You can generate an animated study or a still image. The analysis can consider shading by adjacent objects such as vegetation and surrounding buildings.
This tool is very useful to evaluate the impact of natural light and shadows on the buildings and site.
It is a powerful tool for the concept design phase.

Engineering Design

Day after day there is a high consumption of water in cisterns, irrigation, washing clothes and various washings. Since in these operations it is not necessary to use potable water, the recovery of rainwater to carry out these operations is increasingly seen as a fundamental point of the strategy to combat water scarcity.

This system significantly reduces the consumption of domestic water, resulting not only in an effective contribution to the preservation of the “water” resource, but also in a profitable investment with short-term economic return, as it leads to a cost reduction associated with water consumption.

Electricity Production
It is beneficial to integrate a power generation system through photovoltaic panels, its viability depends on:
– Daily occupant activity and presence in the dwelling;
– Electrical consumption during the day or at night if there is energy storage system installed in the house (more expensive solution).
